MOTORING experts have been giving their thoughts on the identity of a heavily disguised, top-secret new car spotted in Ashbourne this week.
The specially-painted car, which was being tested by a manufacturer and was parked up in Shaw Croft Car Park under a cover on Wednesday, initially had experts at motoring publication Auto Express stumped and staff put the News Telegraph’s picture on their Facebook page for readers to help them guess the make and model.
Guesses included a Toyota, Nissan, Volkswagen and a Kia but Auto Express’s team of motoring journalists seems confident that it is, in fact, the new Honda Civic – which is due out on sale next year.
One of the Facebook users that agrees with Auto Express staff is Lulian Cristian Moise, who said on the social networking site: “Well, it seems to have off-road wheel arches and by the position of the front axle it's not Merc or BMW. My guess is Honda Civic.”
Disguised paintjobs are used by car-makers to trick the eye and not to give away a car’s curves and features before its official launch.
Honda’s new Civic is predicted to make its first undisguised public appearance at the glitzy Paris Motorshow next month.
