NAKED rambler, Stephen Gough, has been spotted walking through the Ashbourne area and even took time out to have a chat with an Ashbourne truck driver.

Pete Holmes, lives at Cubley and works at Frankerbrook Garage, Belper. He was driving through Milldale when he spotted the naked rambler taking a break.

Mr Holmes said: “I was on my way to Alstonefield and I saw this fellow who I’d seen on the news before.

“He was at Lode Mill Bridge with no top on. He was carrying his bergen and I shouted out the window ‘are you not cold?’ And then I realised who it was.

“It was the naked rambler making his way down south.

“I parked the van up in a safe location and asked to have my picture taken with him. “There was a man with a TV camera following him and he asked if he could film us.

“We’re both ex forces, both former marine commandos, so we sat and had a chat.

“He had a map wallet covering his nether regions. He’s covered up most of the time by his map, so he’s not doing anything really.

“I’ve got nothing against what he’s doing.

“I left after we had a chat and then 10 minutes later it thrashed down with rain.” Rebecca Redfern at Frankerbrook Garage added: “We believe he is doing no harm.

“I have my group, the Mother Truckers, a lady truckers group in the UK, keeping their eyes peeled and out spotting for him while they out on the roads, so there are 165 women drivers looking for him.

“They can’t wait to see him. We even suggested having him for our group mascot.

“He is welcome to call at the garage for a brew when he is the area. Bless him!” Mr Gough, who has spent a total of six years in jail for ‘indecency’ offences while naked rambling, was also spotted at Mappleton and Mayfield.

He did not spend six years in jail for "indecency offences" as there is no law against public nudity. He was convicted of "breach of the peace" - which is a catchall for just about anything.
