BOTH the men's and women's championship finals at Ashbourne Squash Club produced new champions.
The ladies' final saw newcomer Sylvia Lueer up against many-times champion Edwina Edwards and the outcome was never in doubt as Lueer played a strong game with good retrieving to claim a convincing 3-0 win.
The men's final was much more of a nail-biter as veteran Mike Herridge, with a record number of championships under his belt, was unwilling to give up easily against Jeff Davenport.
After a tight first three sets, Davenport had match point in the fourth, only for Herridge to fight back and take the game to a decider.
Herridge built a commanding lead but a final determined push saw Davenport take the game by the scruff of the neck to produce a thriling win.
Meanwhile, the club's fortunes in the Derbyshire summer leagues were revived last Thursday with a win over Duffield 4-1.
The match featured strong performances from Lueer, Sven Rowan and Phil Whittingham and was rounded off with a grandstand finish from Peter Fox, who battled to win in five sets.
