A PILOT course in Animal Assisted Therapy has started a village near Ashbourne.

The 10-week course, which is being run in Sudbury, is being run by village-based business Growing Rural Enterprise in partnership with Quest Day Opportunities.

Participants are trained to handle dogs used in dog therapy and course leaders say they hope it gets off to a good start.

Growing Rural Enterprise director Nick Platt said: “We have seen this programme work well in Italy and are working with partners in Germany, Spain and Italy to adapt the project and use it in their own countries.

The project is a Leonardo Transfer of Innovation Project and we hope it is the first of many.”
