TWO schools near Ashbourne are in line for new catering and kitchen facilities, thanks to a recently approved £164,000 upgrade budget.

New floors, improved storage and alterations to layouts were among the plans agreed by the Derbyshire County Council cabinet.

Brassington Primary School has been given the largest amount of all the seven schools involved, with £50,000 for a full refurbishment, including new storage and electrical equipment.

Meanwhile pupils at Long Lane primary school in Dalbury Lees will receive £20,000 towards an upgrade of equipment plus a revised layout and improved servery and storage.

Councillor Kevin Gillott said: “We’re facing the biggest squeeze on our budgets we’ve ever known but we are committed to helping our schools offer pupils the best facilities they can.

“The unprecedented cuts we’re facing means money is tight, but we recognise it is important children get a good meal at lunchtime and I am pleased to be able to help improve the kitchens at these schools to help them provide that.”
