ASHBOURNE’S new Tourist Information Centre has been officially opened.

Town Councillors, Derbyshire Dales District Councillors, staff and members of the public gathered on Saturday to watch the ribbon being officially cut by town councillor Sandra Spencer, who declared the Visitor Information Centre open.

The project to reinstate Ashbourne’s one-stop resource for information for tourists and visitors began when the district council conducted a review that led to the closure its sites.

Ashbourne Town Council voted to convert part of the town hall into a new dedicated Visitor Information Centre and, with the help of a £10,000 grant from the district council, converted the rear of the building to accomodate the facility.

Work to transform the town hall included adding glass doors and partitions, new signage and toilets. Fixtures and fittings were moved from the old centre.
