A carpet of snowdrops

ONE of the first signs of spring has been putting on a blooming marvellous display around Ashbourne.

Snowdrops have been springing up in fields, beds and hedgerows across the Ashbourne area and staff at Hopton Hall, which puts on one of the best displays in the Midlands each year, say it’s been another good season for the small white flowers.

The grounds of the house, near Carsington, have been carpeted with their usual crop of snowdrops for a few weeks and visitors are still invited to take a closer look as part of Hopton Hall’s annual showcase, which grows each year.

The privately-owned hall’s gardens will also open for summer visitors in mid-June.

As well as the snowdrops, the garden features a Laburnum Tunnel and scenic walks.

To find out more about visiting the hall and its snowdrop gardens, with gates open until Sunday, March 3, visit www.hoptonhall.co.uk or call 01629 540923.
