ASHBOURNE families are being urged to prepare well in advance for any potential repeat of last month's devastating floods.

Derbyshire Dales District Council is offering free advice to householders in flood risk areas of the town and surrounding villages after a surge of water swept through homes and businesses last month.
The authority has now officially completed its clean-up operation. Cleaning machinery and hand sweeping has cleared roadside gulleys blocked by silt and workers helped to remove flood-damaged household goods such as carpets, fridges and freezers.
Residents in flood risk areas can contact the district council on 01629 761130 for advice on protecting property against flooding.
To find out if your home or business is in a flood risk area, enter your postcode into the Environment Agency's website at www.environment-agency.gov.uk or call the Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
