A BUS operator which runs services in Ashbourne is on the way to revolutionising the area’s bus travel with the launch of a new high-tech information service.
Trentbarton’s customers will be able to plan journeys using a new live service that will combine vehicle-tracking technology with the latest developments in mobile communications to offer smartphone and tablet users up-to-the-minute information on departure times.
Alex Hornby, Trentbarton’s commercial director, said: “Using our free website, which has been specially optimised for tablet or mobile use, customers can choose their usual stops, and the system will automatically notify them when the next few buses are on their way.
“It will provide a real boost for people living in small towns or rural areas where buses may be less frequent.
“Whether they’re in the country or city, customers will be able to decide when it’s best to leave for the bus stop or even if there’s enough time to order another pint.”
The company’s existing website at www.trentbarton.co.uk is being upgraded to show live departure times across the network and GPS mobile users can use it to locate the nearest bus stops.
