AN ASHBOURNE hairdresser is set for industry-wide acclaim after scooping the coveted It Girl title as part of a scheme to recognise the best in the business.
Angel Montague-Sayers, of Sally Montague Hair Group, which has a salon in St John Street, was picked out by Creative Head magazine to join its 2013 ‘It List’.
The list is aimed at rewarding up-and-coming hairdressers aged 30 and under and Angel’s entry into the awards follows triumph in 2012 when she picked up The Fashionista accolade.
At the recent grand final, hosted by comedian Russell Kane at the Natural History Museum in London, Angel was presented with her trophy to the cheers of a 600-strong audience including some of the UK’s industry leaders.
Angel (pictured right) said: “To have won The It Girl is overwhelming and I really didn’t expect it.
“Taking home The Fashionista last year was amazing, but to win again this year incredible.
“I feel privileged to be recognised at an awards event as prestigious as The It List.”
Creative Head’s publisher Catherine Handcock said: “It was a spectacular night that paid tribute to a host of hairdressing stars, and placed some exciting new names in the spotlight.
“The creativity, fresh thinking and absolute focus that exists in salons around the UK is both awesome and humbling.
“No wonder the rest of the world looks to us to set the pace.”
The awards were judged by a panel of experts including model and blogger Ruth Crilly, award-winning Dublin-based salon owner Dylan Bradshaw and respected session stylist Bianca Tuovi.
Angel demonstrated work from shoots for top titles including Vogue and Elle and backstage styling at New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks.
