THE squeeze on Derbyshire Dales District Council’s funding is due to be top of the agenda at a forthcoming round of public meetings next month.
People in Ashbourne are being invited to the authority’s area community forum, which takes place in Ashbourne Leisure Centre on Monday, February 3 and will offer an opportunity for residents to quiz council bosses over spending plans.
The Ashbourne meeting is one of three due to be held in the district during February and district council leader Lewis Rose said it will be a good opportunity for people living in the district to air their views.
He said: “I have gone on record as saying this council is facing the most serious challenge I have experienced in almost 40 years of local government.
“The squeeze of local government finances could seriously impact on the services we offer, with £2.9-million additional savings needed in the next six years.
“These Forums are therefore a timely opportunity for local people to get a first hand view on the action that needs to be taken and, of course, to air their views.”
The meeting, which starts at 7pm, will be supported by a live Twitter feed and questions can be sent in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
A Question Time session will enable audience members to ask questions and make comments and suggestions to the various representatives from participating authorities.
