Ball launch for Four Market Towns Initiative

Written byNATALIE WAKEFIELD

A JOINT initiative between town councils in Ashbourne, Cheadle, Leek and Uttoxeter has been officially launched at a civic ball.

The Four Market Towns Initiative was formed in October last year, as the mayors of all four towns met to discuss the opportunities for closer co-operation and a joint effort to promote the four towns.

The fund-raising civic ball was held at the Alton Towers Hotel on Saturday.

The drive behind the initiative is to help promote and support events within each town by ensuring dates don’t clash, as well as sharing information on web sites and promoting the area to people living in and around the area and beyond.

Ashbourne Town Mayor, Councillor Steve Bull attended the ball on Saturday with his wife and consort, Councillor Sue Bull.

He said: “It was a major success and a privilege to be there with the mayors from Cheadle, Uttoxeter and Leek.

“I hope it is the start of something special between the four towns and it was touching that we had a minute of applause for Alan Hodkinson, who was one of the first to champion the idea.

“It was an absolutely fantastic occasion and all 200 guests enjoyed it.”
