ASHBOURNE Town Band has invested in a set of new instruments, after saving funds for two years.
The band, which makes regular appearances in and around the town, spent £20000 on the nstruments to provide for an ever growing number of players.
The instruments, all made by Besson, are a EEb Bass, a BBb Bass and two Sovereign 928 Cornets.
The band, which has 38 players under the baton of musical director Russell Bevan, is run by volunteers and relies on income from its engagements, public and private donations, collections and funeral donations.
Band president Simon Ede said: “On behalf of the band I would like to thank the people and organisations of Ashbourne and districts that support us to keep the band going for the long term future.”
The band have recently recorded a CD which will be available soon from its website at www.ashbournetownband.co.uk
The CD is the first recording the band has made since a record was produced in 1977.
