Bond backs pig farm campaign

A pigFORMER James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore has thrown his weight behind a campaign to fight plans for a controversial pig farm near Ashbourne.

The campaign group Pig Business hopes the support of veteran former Bond actor will bolster their bid to stop plans for the 25,000-sow farm in Foston.

Speaking about so-called ‘factory farming’ of pigs generally, Sir Roger described such facilities as ‘concentration camps for animals’ and said he believed the meat they produced was ‘unhealthy’.

However his claims have been dismissed by Midland Pig Producers, the firm behind the scheme planned for land near HMP Foston Hall, off Uttoxeter Road.

A spokesman insisted the farm would be focused on high welfare and said there was a need to produce more meat in the country.
