PREPARATIONS for those planning to leap into the New Year are already underway.
The annual Mappleton Boat Race and Bridge Jump will again be held on New Year’s Day and competitors are already gearing up to start 2013 with a splash.
Registration for the race is now open and teams need to get their forms filled in and returned before Friday, December 14.
The annual event was taken over by Ashbourne Lions, with support from Ashbourne Sub Aqua Club, after long-term organiser Jim Breeze handed over the reigns earlier this year due to ill health.
Chairman of the organising group, Charles Wimbush, said: “The Bridge Jump is on New Year’s Day and teams wishing to enter the Boat Race and Bridge Jump are asked to contact Phil Rosenbrock on 07980 189602 and they will be sent race details and an entry form.
“The race is likely to be over-subscribed so entry forms are to be returned by Friday, December 14 please.
“Individuals brave enough to jump individually on the day, are advised to ring Phil as well. All participants will also be required to register on the day.”
