COFFEE BREAK

Written byNATALIE WAKEFIELD

Name: Sally Montague

Age: A lady never tells

Lives: Windley

Married: Yes for 26 years

Children: Yes, I have three girls

I am: a creative problem solver and multi-tasker between my six salons.

Three things I like: Christmas, snow and holidays.

Three things I don’t like: bad manners, poor service and rain.

Up’ard/ Down’ard: neither really because I don’t live very locally, but I do support it.

Born and bred:

In Derby, I’m from a big Derby family.

Family matters:

I’m married to Garrick and we have three daughters, Emmanuelle, 25, Angel, 23 and Jazzy 20. We also have two dogs, a golden retiever called Lady and a miniature Yorkshire terrier called Fifi as well as two horses called Chippy and Rosie.

Work:

I still cut hair five days a week but the biggest job is running the salons. I work at each salon because I like to work with the team.

I am best at:

Seeing what suits people best, even if they don’t know it themselves. It’s kind of intuitive.

My ideal holiday:

I love skiing and going to Dubai.

Proudest moment:

Opening two salons during a recession, receiving the Derbyshire Business Person of the Year award a few years ago and helping Angel while she was working at New York fashion week. It was great to see her in control and for me to just help.

Favourite food:

Goats cheese, risotto and pine nuts with rocket.

Inspired by:

Karen Brady, she’s a great role model for women having been successful in a male dominated environment.

If you ruled the world:

I’d get more businesses to train and continually educate their staff and put more faith in the younger members of their team. That’s a bit of a bug bear of mine. And I’d like to see more people doing apprenticeships.

Epitaph:

I told you I was ill!
