A CARE home near Ashbourne that was stopped from taking new patients has been given a new lease of life as it continues to improve.
Barrowhill Hall, a MOP Healthcare home near Rocester, welcomed new registered manager Suzanne Scholz back in July and it has since seen its fortunes change.
At the time the home had failed a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection and social services had put a block on them taking in new patients over concerns for their care. Within two months they were able to accept new residents as social services were happy with the improvements.
In November the CQC found the home was fully compliant in all areas where it had failed before which confirmed the massive improvements made to the delivery of care.
The building has been refurbished with the foyer improved to offer a reception area, provide a meeting room and hairdressing salon.
Mrs Scholz said: “It has been hard work. The staff have been very accepting of me and the majority have worked with me to make the improvements that were needed.”
The manager is also applying for a nursing registration so if residents health deteriorate they do not have to move homes. It has also been recommended by Carehome.co.uk and has taken on two health and social care apprentices.
Office manager Paula Dixon said: “We are extremely excited about the new refurbishment program which has already started, we are confident that when it is complete it will place Barrowhill amongst the leading care homes in the area.”
The home will be holding an open day for 2pm to 4pm on Friday, February 8.
