Cash is taken in daylight robbery

Written byBY GARETH BUTTERFIELD

ROBBERS have burst into a busy Ashbourne supermarket and run off with cash after grabbing a cashier.

Two men entered Sainsbury’s supermarket at around 4pm on Saturday and one of them approaced the cigarette counter, where a female staff member was counting money.

He grabbed the woman’s arm and demanded she handed over cash before snatching a wad of bank notes.

The two men ran out of the Cooper’s Mill store and witnesses report seeing them leaving the car park in a silver Vauxhall Insignia.

A spokesman for the supermarket said the member of staff, who has not been named, was not hurt in the robbery.

She said: “We are continuing to co-operate fully with the police in their enquiries.

“Although very shaken our colleague was unharmed and we are supporting her in any way we can after this traumatic incident.”

Ashbourne Police are now investigating the incident and are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time.

The man who approached the till is described as white, around 6ft tall and of a medium build.

He was wearing dark coloured jacket, a grey hooded top and tracksuit bottoms and grey coloured plimsolls.

The second man is described as black, around 5ft 11in and wearing a dark coloured beanie style hat and black hooded jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
