DERBYSHIRE District Cats Protection is urging pet owners in Ashbourne to consider neutering their cats.
Staff at the centre say warn that un-spayed female cat can be responsible for 20,000 offspring in five years.
Neutered male cats, they add, are less likely to roam and become stray, reducing the risk of them being run over, fighting, or contracting and passing on serious diseases.
The charity can help owners on low incomes by offering cost assisted vouchers.
