COUNCIL bosses are reminding parents to check if their child is eligible for free school meals.
As part of National School Meals Week, which runs until Friday, Derbyshire County Council is urging families to apply for the offer, which could save £400 a year for each child.
Derbyshire County Councillor Jim Coyle, Deputy Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “In these difficult financial times the council wants to make sure families are getting all the help they’re entitled to.”
The authority has uploaded a form to its website at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals which also explains the critera children must meet.
This includes parents and carers being on income support or Jobseeker’s Allowance.
