Name: Colin Hodgkinson
Lives: Stanley, near Leek
Children: One, yes
I run the Staffordshire Savoury Scotch Egg Stall at Ashbourne’s monthly farmers’ market
Three things I like:
Reading, real ale and films
Three things I don’t like:
The MPs’ expenses debacle, parking charges and empty shops in high streets
Born and bred:
I was born above the chemist’s shop in Cross Street, Cheadle. I’d always lived in Cheadle until I my wife and I moved to a small-holding in Stanley, which is in between Endon and Leek.
I’m married to Debbie and we have one son, Jason. He’s only 10-years-old, but he’s our sales manager!
My wife was a deputy head teacher in Leek and she got fed up of it. We’d just bought the small-holding and, over a few drinks one night, I suggested she packed up her job. And she did. She went on a farm diversification course and we came up with the idea of making and selling scotch eggs. We make them on the farm and then sell them at farmers’ markets around Derbyshire and Staffordshire.
We also sell our own smoked meats.
I am best at:
Not being able to multi-task, according to my wife.
My ideal holiday:
Got to be in the Caribbean
I feel like I should say scotch eggs, but it’s actually a bacon bap.
Churchill on a gloomy day, Jeremy Clarkson on a better day.
If you ruled the world:
I think whistle-blowers should be made social heroes, rather than pariahs.
