A FREE bicycle maintenance course is being held at Ashbourne Cycle Hire, offering people the chance to let an expert take them through the basics of servicing their own bike.
As part of a project run by the Peak District National Park Authority, aimed at helping people enjoy the beauty spot on two wheels, the courses have been running at its centres throughout the summer. The last course, held at the Mappleton Lane centre, at the start of the popular Tissington Trail, was hailed a success, and bosses are hoping people will now sign up to the second instalment.
The project has also been giving people the opportunity to take part in guided rides and cycle skills workshops at its specialist centres in the national park.
Organiser Carol Parsons said: “All the events have a relaxed and sociable atmosphere aimed at building beginners confidence.
“We’ve had people come along who had never ridden a bike before and they’ve learned how to ride within a few hours.
“All the events have friendly, expert cycle guides to provide advice and support, and all are free “The rides, training sessions and maintenance workshops are proving popular.
“People are finding that the events are a great opportunity to build their cycling confidence and learn new skills.”
The introductory courses in Ashbourne, running on Wednesday, September 22 from 1.30pm until 4pm, will see a member of the experienced cycle hire team running visitors through lubrication, brake pads, gears and punctures.
