NEWLY released figures show crime in and around Ashbourne has fallen this year.
Derbyshire Police Authorityhas announced the number of crimes in the county fell by 6.3 per cent between April and October - representing a drop of more than 2,500 offences county-wide.
The biggest drop in crimes appeared in reported cases of serious sexual offences, with more than 20 per cent less compared to last year when incidences increased by nearly five per cent.
The number of assaults has also dropped across Derbyshire, by more than a quarter, which represents a fall of 1,251 offences reported.
Phillip Hickson, chairman of Derbyshire Police Authority, said: “These figures paint a very positive picture of the work the Constabulary and Authority is undertaking to make Derbyshire a safer place for everyone and is especially pleasing considering the difficult financial period.
"In recent months, a number of projects have been launched to increase reassurance in the community as well as target those crimes which are persistently causing misery and disruption to residents and I’m pleased to say we are seeing significant results.
“The Authority regards its responsibility to improve standards very seriously and will push for further improvements over the next 12 months to ensure Derbyshire residents receive the best possible policing service.”
Offences of burglary, vehicle crime and robbery fell by 2.4 per cent between April and October while d gun crime offences fell from 84 last year to 59 and anti-social behaviour incidents dropped 11.5 per cent.
The figures also show the number of offences in which an offender is identified and dealt with has improved from 33.6 per cent to 36.3 per cent.
