AS WINTER once again takes hold, and the long nights arrive, those of us who like to run and cycle outdoors face the usual thought of hours spent on the treadmill or turbo trainer.
But fear not, as there is another option – the Silva Cross Trail II technical sports headlamp.
LED headlamps have been around for a long while now, but the Cross Trail II differs from most conventional headlamps by offering not only the usual headband set up but also a further set of adaptors allowing the light to be mounted to either a cycle helmet or handlebars.
These options make this little light a superb option for people who enjoy both cycling and running at night, or even if you are just looking for a good quality lamp for walking the dog through the winter months.
Build quality is, as with all Silva lights, excellent with a good quality feel without being too heavy, leaving no doubt that this light will serve its purpose for many years to come, in fact; a friend of mine has used a Silva headlamp daily for a good few years without fault.
In use, the Cross Trail II is very comfortable when used on the headband; helped in part by the battery pack being separate and mounted on the waistband (a strap for frame mounting is also included)
The light pattern on offer from this headlamp gives a good focused spread of light, using the 250 lumens on offer well, which suits not only cycling and running but also the odd recce to the shed on a windy night to check it’s locked!
The battery pack takes four AA batteries and provides between 5.5 and 30 hours of illumination depending of which of the three light settings you use.
Priced at just under £100 the Silva Cross Trail II could be seen as quite expensive compared to some of the other lamps in Silva’s range, but the inclusion of so many different mounting options actually start to make it look like great value for multi-sport users, as they will no longer need separate lighting for each sport.
All in all, a great LED Lamp.
