AN INVESTIGATION has got underway after cyclists have been continually spotted racing on a notorious road near Ashbourne which has claimed the lives of at least five people in the last decade.
A resident, who asked not to be named says she has seen cycle races every Saturday on the B5030 near Rocester, which is known to be an accident blackspot for motorists.
She said she has been battling to get something done about the problem since the end of August, saying it is dangerous to both motorists and the cyclists. She said: “This is causing a danger to the public as these are cycle races and the appropriate measures are not being taken to protect the users of the highways.
“When I was travelling along this road following some of the racing bikes, people at the side of the road were passing drinks to the cyclists and they were then throwing the water containers behind them onto my car.”
A spokesman for Staffordshire County Council said it was aware of a complaint and confirmed the authority working with Staffordshire Police to investigate the matter.
