A CYCLIST is gearing up to ride around 100 miles and call in to 30 churches this weekend, to raise funds for the area’s historic places of worship.
American-born Jodie Williams, whose family has a long connection with the Ashbourne area plans to spend Friday and Saturday riding around the churches of Staffordshire and Derbyshire from her base in Ashbourne as part of this year’s Ride and Stride event.
Ms Williams, 53, who has had two knee replacements and has a torn disc, completed the challenge last year but hopes to cover a greater distance this year.
She said: “You can do all the genalogy you want but when you actually get out and see all these churches you get a real sense of connection with them.”
Last year Ms Williams raised more than £1,000 for Debyshire churches and nearly £1,000 for Staffordshire churches. To support her visit www.justgiving.com/Jodie-Williams15
