THEME park Alton Towers is running a Halloween celebration from Saturday, and to celebrate the spooky season bosses call ‘Scarefest’ visitors will be able to ride the new roller coaster ‘Smiler’ in the dark for the first time.
The Scarefest celebration runs from Saturday until Sunday, November 3 and three mazes are also among the attractions running throughout.
Katherine Duckworth, head of consumer marketing said: “The Smiler already boasts five ‘mind marmalising’ effects so the addition of total darkness will heighten guests’ senses and give the attraction a new terrifying dimension.
“The ride has already proven to be an intense physical experience like no other. We just hope that our visitors during Scarefest are ready for the thrill of a lifetime.”
During Scarefest visitors can try out the park’s most recent addition, The Sanctuary and will be invited to explore the resort’s historic towers in Terror of the Towers: What Lies Within.
Young visitors can attend ‘Ghoul School’ or hear spooky stories and families can make book into trick or treat rooms at the resort’s hotel.
Rides in the dark are due to close at 9pm each night during the celebration.
