ONE of Ashbourne’s most loyal town councillors has died at the age of 59.
Alan Hodkinson, who served as the town’s Mayor three times during his 19-year membership of Ashbourne Town Council, passed away suddenly at home in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Father of two and grandfather Mr Hodkinson, who was also a former chairman of the Derbyshire Dales District Council, joined the town council in 1994 and is one of only two members to have served as chairman and Mayor for two consecutive terms.
He was made Mayor in 1999 and then again in 2005, staying on in 2006 for a second term. Last year he was made deputy Mayor, serving alongside the town’s current serving Mayor Steve Bull.
A meeting of Ashbourne Town Council due to be held last night at the town hall was deferred as a mark of respect.
The News Telegraph intends to publish a full tribute to Mr Hodkinson in next week’s issue.
