61 Store Cattle
Better numbers and some real quality in the store cattle this week with some very forward beasts hitting the high notes.
Breeding Cattle sold well with a Highland Heifer and Heifer calf at £890 from Brian Dalby, Rugby whilst a run of In Calf Heifers from Mr P Langton sold to £1030 with others for later in the uear selling from £930-£990.
A good run of 16 Hereford Steers and Heifers (Named) from J W Shepherd & Son, Burton sold on a flying trade and averaged £1101 and saw Steers to £1330 (22 months) and £1285 (22-24 months) whilst Heifers sold to £1165 (22 months) with others at £995 (22-24 months) and £970 (22-23 months). A trio of Hereford Steers (Named) sold at £1070 (22 months) from J & J W Stafford, Hulland.
Angus cattle always find a good premium at Derby and a run of 16 Steers and Heifers from J Nicholson & Son, Clowne sold well again with a trio of Steers selling at £1150 (16-19 months) and 4 Heifers selling at 1000 (19-24 months). A super Blue Heifer from Andrew and Julie Yates sold well at £1110.
Derby is certainly the place to market store cattle.

A nice entry of dairies saw a top price of £1680 for a fresh Heifer from Mr George Shepherd of Eggington with a British Friesian from Messrs Dalby of Pailton at £1430.

490 Hoggs 66 Ewes & Rams 8 Store Sheep
A total of 564 sheep included 490 hoggs. A mixed show of hoggs on offer included a proportion of end of seasons types with several leaner pens on offer. Best Sorts peaked at 170p/Kg with overall average of 158.59p/Kg. Best big hoggs grossed £91.64/head.
