PRIME CATTLE - Auctioneer: Charles Hollis
More cattle about like other markets and due to numbers trade slipped towards the end of the week, but we still had an exceptionally good trade.
OTMS (ave Kg 132.04) were 13p more than Leek and 17p more than Market Drayton. The clean cattle (ave Kg 194.49) were second by comparison to the nearest 6 local markets.
Very few Continentals forward in the OTMS. Friesians sold to 151 and the highlight in the bulls was again Mr Paddock’s entry which realised 230p/Kg and averaged 227.37p/Kg. Highlight of the steers was Richard Naylor’s pair of black Limousin steers which both made 250/Kg. There were some good quality Heifers forward, but unfortunately in view of the numbers forward in all markets this week, there was a big difference in trade; as much as 15p/Kg difference between Farm Assured and Non-Farm Assured.
