NEARLY 70 motorists have issued with warnings and fixed penalty notices following a road safety operation in Brailsford, police have revealed.
Officers from the Ashbourne Safer Neighbourhood Policing teams joined the Casualty Reduction and Enforcement Support Team (CREST), the Vehicle Operator Services Agency (VOSA) and HM Revenue and Customs for the five-hour operation on the A52.
The team issued a mixture of warnings and fixed penalty notices to 37 drivers and passengers for not wearing a seatbelt, 17 drivers for exceeding the 30 mph speed limit, 11 drivers for using their mobile phones while driving, two drivers for breaching vehicle weight restrictions, and two drivers for tyre defects 69 motorists in total.
One car was also seized by officers after the driver was found not to have an appropriate driving licence and one penalty notice was given to a driver whose vehicle did not have a valid MOT certificate.
Another motorist, whose tinted windows were found to be below the legal visibility level, removed the tint after being stopped.
During the operation, which took place on Wednesday, August 18, VOSA also issued three immediate and two delayed prohibition notices, which are given to drivers for defects on vehicles which seriously affect their roadworthiness.
Hulland Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said that speeding motorists and concerns over road safety remains a key priority and officers have been targeting the issue in several villages, including Brailsford, over the last few months.
Sergeant Steve Edwards said: “Residents in Brailsford have told us that they are concerned about unsafe driving in the area.
“We worked alongside CREST, VOSA and HM Revenue and Customs as part of a partnership approach to help target their concerns, using both enforcement and education.
I hope that these checks will also act as a reminder to motorists across the Ashbourne area about their responsibility to be both safe and also considerate drivers.”
