A MATURE student from Ashbourne has won a major fashion industry award.
Jacqui Luker, who is in the last year of a three year fashion studies degree at Derby University, was picked out among hundreds of entries to be hailed the Best Student Designer by industry magazine Bridal Buyer.
The brief was to design a dress based on the work of an artist and Mrs Luker, from Windmill Lane, created a wedding dress based on the artist Hockney.
Her award was announced at the Harrogate Exhibition Centre this month during a glittering blacktie dinner and awards ceremony attended by more than 600 guests representing all sectors of the bridal industry.
Mrs Luker moved to Ashbourne in 1990 and runs a property business from home. Her first degree was in accountancy and management science.
The design that won her the accolade features a printed skirt which features photographs from the life of the bride, representing a passage of time.
It is also fitted with tiny cameras, which record the wedding day for posterity.
The dress can be viewed at Tissington Hall Bridal Fair on Sunday, April 7.
