ASHBOURNE’S cinema group, which is based at the Empire Ballroom, has announced its two latest screenings, taking place on Friday and Saturday.

The Empire Cinema Group is showing ‘Quartet’ on Friday night and ‘Guarantee of the Rise of the Guardians’ on Saturday morning.

Quartet features Reg Wilf and Cissy, retired members of an operatic quartet living in Beecham House, a retirement home for gifted musicians.

The residents living in the home put on a concert on the composer, Verdi’s, birthday.

However the arrival of the fourth member of the quartet, Reg’s ex-wifeJean, results in old rivalries and theatrical temperaments and it becomes unclear if the show will go on or not.

The film is due to begin at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 7pm at the King Edward Street venue.

Saturday’s family film, which is rated PG, begins at 11am and features Jack Frost, the spirit of winter, who describes how he has been invisible because no-one believes he exists. Santa Claus warns him that The Bogeyman has returned to earth threatening all children.

Santa, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny and the Sandman join forces with Jack Frost to deal with The Bogeyman.

The film stars the voices of Alec Baldwin, Jude Law and Hugh Jackman.
