POLLUTION is entering a small brook near to Ashbourne and Environment Agency bosses say they are trying to investigate the source.
A News Telegraph reader contacted us anonymously to point out the state of the stream, which runs alongside Snipesmoor Lane off the A52, and submitted photographs of sewage debris and black water.
In a letter, the correspondent wrote: “I usually take photos of wildlife and didn’t expect to be taking pictures of what looks — and smells like — raw sewage.
“No one has done anything about it and this awful stuff will be getting into our brooks and rivers and poisoning everything in there.” A spokesman for the Environment Agency said they were monitoring the brook, which runs underneath the Airfield Industrial Estate. The spokesman said: “We are aware of an ongoing problem with pollution entering a brook near Snipes Moor Lane, Ashbourne.
“We have recently attended the site to investigate and take samples.
“Currently we are looking into a number of possible pollution sources, and working with others in the area to try and stop the pollution entering the brook.”
