Festive binge-drinking warning

A CAMPAIGN to highlight the dangers of binge drinking has been launched by Derbyshire Police as the festive period draws closer.

Beer drinker The ‘where will your night end?’ campaign, launched in time for the busy Christmas and new year period, has been put in place to reduce alcoholrelated harm among party goers and is a joint initiative between the force and local authorities.

Launched on Friday last week, the campaign will see events taking place around Derbyshire and posters will appear highlighting the potential effects of a binge-drinking session.

Superintendent Gary Parkin, Derbyshire police’s lead on preventing alcohol harm, said: “The festive period is a time for people to socialise and enjoy themselves. Many people come into our towns and city centre during this period and do so without incident or trouble.

“Unfortunately, there are always a few who drink too much and then are more likely to become involved in crime and disorder, or suffer illness or injury.

“I hope through our campaign we can encourage people to be responsible and consider the consequences of drinking excessive amounts of alcohol.

“This Christmas I would ask people to try and enjoy themselves whilst respecting the people around them and being safe and responsible.” To find out more about the campaign or for advice on alcohol, visit www.derbyshire.police.uk.
