TOWN Councillors are hoping they will soon be able to announce details of a “four year plan”, devised in an attempt to focus on specific projects that will improve life in the town.
The first discussions into the idea were made at a recent meeting in the Town Hall where the suggestion was made that a five year plan would help identify key issues and projects and then see them through to completion.
But Councillor Steve Bull pointed out that a five year plan would be of little use when councillors are only elected for a four year term — the next round of elections are due in May, when the plan would get off the ground.
Discussing the four year plan, Councillor Philip Chell said: “We’ve never had a five year plan before and we’ve got plenty of councillors wanting to do individual bits, and organisers of events that do their little bits, but we don’t come together.
We’ve all got some great ideas but we’ve never done anything about it, so don’t let’s just talk about it, let’s look at what needs doing, pull together and get it done.”
Councillor Hanbury wrapped up the discussion by urging the council to have a detailed plan in place ahead of the elections, to be formalised in April ready for the next town council term.
