GRANTS for projects that encourage people living in and around Ashbourne to understand and support the armed forces have become available.
Derbyshire County Council has joined up with Derbyshire Dales Distict council, the Chamber of Commerce and representatives of the armed forces to evaluate bids for funding from the national Armed Forces Community Covenant Scheme.
Applications will be endorsed by the local partnership before being submitted to the Ministry of Defence and the scheme has been set up to help communities undertake projects that promote greater understanding between the military and civilian populations.
Grants of between £100 and £250,000 are available to volunteer groups, charities, schools and public bodies that are found to be eligible.
The next deadline for bids is 31 August 2013, with further rounds later in the year and throughout 2014.
