Great North Run tickets up for grabs

Written byBY GARETH BUTTERFIELD

ASHBOURNE’S runners who failed to be drawn out in the recent ballot for the Great North Run have been thrown a potential lifeline by a national charity.

The Red Cross is offering a limited number of places to anyone who signs up and pledges to reach fundraising target and people from Ashbourne are among those invited to apply.

Adele Gregory, who ran last year for the Red Cross, said: “The biggest and best Half Marathon in the UK. The people of the North East have taken this event to the heart they are famous for.

“Whether you want to run in a fairy costume or run the race of your life achieving a personal best, this race has something for everyone.”

The Great North Run takes place on Sunday, September 15 2013 and is dubbed the world’s biggest half marathon.

More than 50,000 runners will start the race from the centre of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, crossing the Tyne Bridge and finishing in South Shields.
