ASHBOURNE’S horticultural highlights have been proudly put forward at an annual show in the town centre.
Ashbourne and District Gardeners’ Club members invited the town’s growers, bakers and crafters to bring in their best produce for the annual horticultural show, held once again in the Ex Servicemen’s Club in the Market Place.
Plenty of entries took part in the 67 classes and official judges travelled in from as far out as Leicester to admire the items on display - which ranged from dahlias to runner beans and even cakes.
Club member Stuart Lees, who led an auction of the produce at the end of the day, said: “It went very well, we had a really good day.
“The quality was excellent this year, all very good stuff. I’ve always said the smaller shows often have better quality produce than the bigger shows.”
The event, on Sunday, raised around £200 which will be split between the club and Ashbourne Cricket Club, which also held a tombola on the day.
