ASHBOURNE’S annual Half Marathon and Fun Run is set to take place this weekend.
The races begin at 10.30am on Sunday and include a runner from Calwich who aims to complete the course in less than an hour and-a-half to raise funds for the Ashbourne Defibrillator Project.
Organiser Charles Wimbush said: “These two races attract all sorts: serious runners determined that for them, this hilly course really isn’t so hard, and others that whilst accepting it is going to be hard, want to do it for the wonderful views of the countryside and for the sense of achievement.
“The Fun Runners are usually a mixed bag, from seriously fast to those taking a family day out or even settling a bet.”
Organisers Ashbourne and District Lions and the Ashbourne Running Club, have announced its main sponsor this year will be John German and proceeds will go to Mayfield and Ellastone Community First Responders.
Entries will be accepted on the day at Ashbourne Recreation Ground’s pavillion from 9am.
