A TEAM of mountain rescue volunteers that carries out life-saving missions in the Ashbourne area is calling upon the town’s daredevils to help raise money at a forthcoming event.
Derby Mountain Rescue Team and the Derby Cathedral Chapter are launching a sponsored abseil from the top of Derby Cathedral tower in October and applications are now being accepted for anyone brave enough to take part.
The tower, at 212 feet high, is the second highest church tower in the country and participants will climb the 189 steps to the top before making their descent by abseiling down the outside of the tower.
Anyone taling part will be under the control of Derby Mountain Rescue’s experts and participants will be lent abseiling gear and given training.
