Hotelier confident as green day is delayed by red tape

Written byBy Gareth Butterfield

COMPLICATIONS have led to a delay in completing the sale of the Green Man Royal Hotel — but its prospective new owner says he is now only days away from being handed the keys.

Thomas Day, new owner of the Green ManHotelier Thomas Day, who also owns the Izaak Walton Hotel in Dovedale and the Paddock Hotel and Restaurant in Melbourne, had hoped to be re-opening the historic St John Street pub and hotel by summer, but a quibble over VAT has meant the sale has not yet completed.

Speaking Exclusively to the News Telegraph, Mr Day(pictured right) said he was now at a stage in discussions with estate agents HEB where he was confident that completion should take place on Friday, August 31.

Mr Day plans to bring the dilapidated Green Man back to its former glory by drafting in local plumbers, builders and electricians and has promised to Shrovetide, bring back the Green Man Disco and possibly even host weddings in its function room.
