BOAT-builders are busy putting the finishing touches to this year’s dazzling creations ahead of this weekend’s launch of the Matlock Bath Illuminations.
The theme of this year’s illuminations, which takes place on Saturday, is a closely-guarded secret but in sheds, garages and lock-ups across the Derbyshire Dales, top secret missions are being finalised ahead of the launch of the popular event.
Every year, judges of the decorated boats competition are picked at random from the crowds in the Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Derwent Gardens, deciding the recipient of a cash prize and the Arkwright Cup, donated in 1903 by Sir Richard Arkwright.
The 116th Illuminations will starting with the parade of illuminated boats from 7.45pm every Saturday and Sunday evening.
The festival runs until Saturday, October 26 October.
