Written byBY GARETH BUTTERFIELD

ASHBOURNE’S farmers have been invited to visit a roadshow explaining how to manage lameness as it calls in to the area as part of a tour of five UK farms.

The Mobility Roadshow, which has been organised by national livestock specialists Westpoint Veterinary Group, which has a base in Ashbourne, will be at a farm in Springwood in Melbourne on Tuesday, March 12 and is open to all dairy farmers and their staff.

The workshops will provide an opportunity to see real on-farm examples of how lameness can be managed, minimised and prevented and offer a chance to find out about some of the latest developments in foot health.

Organsiers say attendees will gain an understanding of the cost impact of lameness and how it can be reduced, of treatment and control of infectious causes of lameness and how to assess and improve housing in relation to lameness.

There will also be a demonstration of how mobility scoring is carried out and the benefits of this.

There will also be expert advice on lameness management and monitoring as part of a mobility programme and information on how to get involved in Westpoint’s CattleMobility4Life project.

Speakers for the workshops include vets with experience of managing lameness on farms across the UK.

Other locations are Dumfries on March 11 West Sussex on March 13 Devon and Cornwall on March 14 and Buckinghamshire on March 15.

Places are free of charge and refreshments will be provided.

Spaces are limited and allocated on a first come first served basis.
