A STUDENT from Ashbourne is recovering at home after a charity trek to the 19,000ft summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Former Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School pupil Phillip, 21, from Forshaw Close, took a break from studying economics and management to join a group of around 20 students for the trek, which raised funds for water supply in Africa.
He said: “I think the sleep deprivation was the hardest bit. I didn’t sleep for around four days.
“Some people got really sick at the top too, with the altitude sickness. I got sick at the summit and that was the altitude.”
Phillip has raised around £1,400 through his trek and hopes to take on another challenge next year.
