A LIFE-SAVING Ashbourne charity is offering courses to members of the public, schools, businesses and community groups after reaching a new status.
Members of Mayfield and Ellastone Community First Responders have recently qualified as Heartstart Instructors and are now offering free two hour courses on basic first aid.
As part of the Heartstart programme, which is run in conjunction with West Midlands Ambulance Service and the British Heart Foundation, its course participants will be taught life-saving skills.
These will include how to call for help, how to help someone who has fallen unconscious, how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and how to recognise the warning signs of a heart attack
Other topics covered include how to deal with choking and how to deal with serious bleeding
The course requires no special medical skills and is suitable for anyone over 10 years old.
