Mayor Caroline Cooper helped pupils from Hill Top Infant and Nursery School place the time capsule at The Stepping Stones pub, which was stuffed with newspapers, letters, drawings, and photographs along with items dropped in by pupils from Queen Elizabeth Grammar School.

Hill Top head teacher Hazel Jaques said: “This was such a great idea. This really challenged the children to think about history by leaving items in the time capsule to be discovered in the future.” A plaque will also be put up at the Stepping Stones with the date of when the capsule was buried.

Cheryl English, manager of the Marston’s Inns and Taverns pub, said: “The time capsule is not only a fascinating project for youngsters to take part in, but it’s also quite symbolic for us too we’re at the exciting beginning of something new with the Stepping Stones which will be around for generations of families to enjoy.” To find out more about the pub call Cheryl on 01335 300800.
