New vintage and flea market a Sunday success

Written byNATALIE WAKEFIELD

A NEW market attracted scores of visitors to Ashbourne town centre.

A vintage and flea market at Ashbourne Town Hall was so successful that stall holders have re-booked for the coming months and the event will expand into the two big halls at the town centre venue.

The vintage and flea market was organised by market trader and entrepreneur Michelle Scattergood.

Mrs Scattergood, who is a mum of three from Ashbourne, has been in retail for 32 years and hopes her new venture will help boost town centre trade.

She said: ““I’ve been selling for 32 years and I used to sell vintage clothes on the Eagle Market in Derby when I was at college. I still love vintage stuff and there’s nothing like that in Ashbourne.

“It was great - buzzing all day.

“All the stall holders booked for next month and the customers commented on the great atmosphere and how reasonable the prices were.”

The vintage and flea market will be each month through 2013, with the next event on Sunday, February 24.

Mrs Scattergood has also organised a farmer’s market at the town hall to run alongside the weekly Thursday market. The first farmer’s market is on Thursday, February 28.
