ASHBOURNE groups looking for a speaker can now find one quickly and easily by looking on a new directory, run by Derbyshire County Council.
The speakers list gives information on more than 180 speakers who can talk on a variety of interesting topics.
They include talks on Derbyshire customs, healthy living, family history and worldwide adventures.
Some of the talks are free, others ask for donations to charity, and some make a charge.
Derbyshire County Council Deputy Cabinet Member for Health and Communities Councillor Ellie Wilcox said: “We are so fortunate in Derbyshire that we have so many community groups and we know they are often looking for speakers.
“This list helps local groups looking for interesting talks and is a great way for speakers to get their voice heard by promoting their work.”
If you are a speaker and want to join the free list, register online at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/speakers, call 01629 538223 or email email@example.com
This is what Jim Russell, 66, from Clowne did when he joined to help promote his talks on wildlife photography.
Jim said: “Last year I had about a number of people get in touch with me because they had seen me on the speakers list.
“It has been very beneficial since joining and I would recommend people to join the speakers list.”
Jim does a number of different talks including on Whitwell Woods on the Derbyshire/Yorkshire border, seabirds, seascapes and coastal plants, a look at nature through the seasons and the landscape and plants of the Peak District.
The Derbyshire Directory also gives information on more than 3,000 clubs, societies and voluntary groups and can be found online at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/directory
