Pupils hurt in school bus crash

Gareth Butterfield

A SCHOOL bus carrying 12 children has been involved in a collision with a lorry as it travelled towards Ashbourne.

Youngsters from Thomas Alleyne’s School in Uttoxeter, who were travelling to Alton on the bus — owned by Ashbourne firm Glovers — were treated for ‘superficial injuries’ following the crash, with two suffering minor injuries, but none seriously hurt.

A man has been arrested in connection with the collision, at around 3.30pm on Monday outside the entrance to JCB’s world headquarters in Rocester, and taken to the Northern Area Custody Facility in Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent, for questioning.

He was still in custody when the News Telegraph went to press.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident and anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote incident number 401.
